They befriended Youta Hidaka and Hideo Kasamatsu and due to their mutual interest in music, they formed a band called Rhythm Players. He was given a similar name to his father as Kokone thought the name sounded nice and Takuma agreed with his wife’s idea. Takuma would often be in the watch shop with his father while his mother was off at work. He would watch his father fix watches as he sat on his father’s lap and learn how to do so by memory in the process. Takumi said that one day, he’ll inherit his watch sup which he got from his father, but Takuma would be unsure of doing so until he grew older. Kokone loved music and wanted to pass on her passion for it to her son, which she successfully did when she taught him how to play classical guitar and later electric guitar.

The Apollo Asteroid Knights

Youta Hidaka aka Apollo Knight

In their previous lives, Chrysorappis aka Hermes Knight was devoted to serving his charge, Prince Phanaeus. He was aware that his prince was the same age as him and hoped to befriend him. Chrysorappis got that chance during Princess Serenity’s and Princess Tranquility’s 14th birthday ball. He approached the prince, they got to know one another, and discovered a mutual love of music. They hoped to play music together but unfortunately, the opportunity didn’t come during the Silver Millennium. In modern days, they met in junior high and formed a band called Rhythm Players with two mutual friends.

Takamori Kimoto aka Zeus Knight

As the leader, Zeus Knight welcomed him into the team with a bear hug. “I appreciate the warm welcome, but could you ease up a bit?” Zeus Knight laughed a bit as he loosened his hold then replied “Sorry, sorry.” Much to Takuma’s notes on his personality, he said that he couldn’t write a knight based on Takuma. When Takuma asked why, Takamori explained that it was because there’s no such thing as a Light Blue Knight. Much to Takuma’s disappointment, his characteristics were used for a bard character in the story.

Donghae Choi aka Nereus Knight

Aside from Apollo Knight, both act as the brains of the team. Both also wield water related elemental powers. When Takuma has something smart to say, Donghae can’t help but chime in with his own two cents. Donghae also rudely tells Takuma “You just love being the center of attention, don’t you?” Takuma smiles and replies “Indeed, I do.” Later, after Donghae aka Nereus Knight becomes more amicable to the team, they start cooperating on strategies and coordinated attacks.

Kuroi Minowa aka Hypnos Knight

Youta gathered magazines on male idols which included Kuroi’s to help inspire the aesthetics of their band. Both recognized Kuroi and were honored that a famous model was part of the team. They were both in awe to find that Takamori knew Kuroi from their junior high days and were on the same basketball team. Although Takuma likes intentionally drawing attention to himself, he notices Kuroi does it effortlessly with just his good looks. Kuroi and Takuma both like having fun. Kuroi encourages Takuma’s dream of becoming a professional drummer but even though Takuma decides to take over his father’s watch shop, he still supports him.

Inspirations

Takuma’s father, Takumi owning a watch shop and him being able to keep time references the fact he was originally going to be the Horologium Warrior. I guess I thought of the name Takumi from NANA’s Takumi Ichinose before looking at the meaning of Takumi and decided to roll with the idea that father and son intentionally have similar names. His personality was based on Gemini male traits. His introduction “asteroid of the coursing waters” was inspired by “coursing river” from the Disney’s Mulan song, “Be a Man”. His attacks were inspired by Sailor Mercury’s. When I was younger, my father had a classical guitar CD playing in the car, so I wanted to incorporate that in his soundtrack. I used Gemini’s lucky numbers, 5 and 7, in his details.
