What’s Meant to Be Yours
Note: Thanks to @ervaurem for chatting with me which inspired this drabble. It's no longer canon since my coauthor cousin and I realized it wasn't necessary to make Ryōta Kise part of the Solarian royal family but I still liked this drabble I did for my friend and polished it up multiple times. Since she headcanoned that the Kuroko no Basuke pairing, Kikasa, would eventually break up, I thought Hideo would be affected by it and share with Mihiro which led to the drabble.
Hideo had to tell someone about Yukio’s break up to sort his feelings on the matter out but who? But then he decided to text Mihiro and asked her if they could talk. She called him right away to ask if everything was alright. He told her while tearing up “Y-Yukio nii-san… and R-Ryōta-san… broke up… It’s… It’s n-not… My re-relationship… But… I feel so sad!”
Mihiro exhaled. “Take a deep breath Hideo. What is Yukio going to do if he finds out you’re sad because he broke up? Think about how he must be feeling right now.” Hideo breathed in and out with Mihiro prompting him to do so and he wiped his eyes. Mihiro asked “Do you feel calmer now?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Good. But it’s only natural that you’re sad. You care about them, right?”
“Uh-huh.”
Mihiro asked “You would be sad if Hisashi and I broke up too, right?”
“I would.”
“Do you know why they broke up?”
Hideo explained that Yukio was the one who broke up his relationship with Ryōta so that he wouldn’t be distracted in pursuing his career as a pilot.
Mihiro replied “I see. That makes sense because no offense, Ryōta does make Yukio happy, but he is very needy, and he seems to get distracted a lot.”
Hideo replied with an ardent tone, “But I don’t get it. Yukio nii-san loves him a lot. Ryōta-san loves Yukio nii-san a lot. I thought they would’ve lasted for more than this. I’ve been juggling a long-distance relationship but I’m still with the one I love.”
Mihiro exhaled and said “Everyone is different. Long-distance relationships aren’t easy, and I know you walked into your relationship knowing that fact.”
“Uh-huh.”
Mihiro continued speaking “Thankfully, there’s not much of a distance between Tokyo and Kanagawa. But you still wanted to be with Mika even though you live in different cities because you love her, right?”
“Yes.”
“I think they walked into their relationship, partly aware of what difficulties lied ahead but not fully aware and that’s the difference between our relationships. You and Yukio know that I’m also a Sailor Guardian and that’s why I distanced myself from you and your brothers for the longest time.”
“Yeah.”
“As for me, I tried distancing myself from Hisashi because I didn’t want to repeat the tragic end we had in our past lives. If I hadn’t resisted, we would have been in a relationship sooner. But I have a princess to protect above all else and I didn’t dare to be with him until my princess told her that my happiness mattered as well, and Mika once told me that we have lives outside of their duties and that we deserve to be happy. Before I got together with Hisashi, I had to tell him that in the worst-case scenario, if he and my princess were in danger, I would have to protect the princess first and I asked him, could he accept that? And he did.”
Mihiro gave a soft laugh. “It’s funny how fate works out. Hisashi and I also had a long-distance relationship in our past life.”
She breathed out before she resumed speaking with a bit of a pensive tone. “No matter how much I resisted, in the end, I still ended up with him.”
“Mika also has a princess. I’ve met her before.”
She giggled a bit before asking “Did you meet the Princess before or after you dated Mika?”
“After.”
“I figured. Although, I suppose Mika’s team operates differently.” Her tone had a bit of an edge as she continued speaking. “I threatened Mika that if you got hurt because you were too involved with her and she’s a Sailor Guardian, I’ll make her regret the words she told me.” Her voice softened at her last statement. “Mika promised me that she would protect you.”
Hideo blushed a bit as he said, “Mika also told me that she would protect me even though she also has to protect her princess no matter what.” He looked concerned. “Mihiro nee-san, please don’t hurt Mika if she does fail to protect me because I know it wouldn’t be her fault.”
Mihiro softly laughed. “Well, you never got hurt so I won’t. She’s really lucky and you’re lucky to have her.”
“Yeah.”
“…Let me tell something Hideo. In your past life, you were part Jovian. Jovians are the people of Jupiter and the princess Mika serves is the princess of the planet. So maybe you two were fated to be together like Hisashi and me. In that same past life, Yukio and Ryōta were part Solarian, that means both of them had the bloodline of the people of the Sun. So maybe that’s why they were drawn to one another. And I speak from experience when I say this… But if you truly love someone, you can let them go for their sake. Like what Yukio did for Ryōta.”
Hideo then recalled Mika once told him “In love, what's meant to be yours will always be yours.” If Mika died once but came back to life two years ago then perhaps…
Hideo exclaimed “Yukio nii-san and Ryōta-san will get back together again!”
Mihiro smiled “I believe so too. Now get to bed Hideo. You still have school tomorrow.”
“…But what about the couples’ stuff we do each year?”
“Well, after Kairi, Mika, and I died and revived two years ago, I think that’s all the more reason to get together, don’t you think?”
“Yeah.”
“If he wants to come along, that’s up to him. Good night, Hideo.”
“Yeah, good night Mihiro nee-san. Thanks for talking with me.”
“Of course.” Soon after that, Mihiro hung up.
~4 years later~
In the first year of Neo Queen Serenity’s reign, Yukio Kasamatsu, 25 years old, who was now an accountant had just sat down in his seat after putting up his luggage in the overhead when a voice on the intercom said “Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking, we are now boarding for Los Angeles…”
Yukio widened his eyes when he recognized that voice. “That idiot!” Tears brimmed in his eyes then he closed it shut.
“He did it after all.”
Perhaps he should pay the captain a visit…
