She likes to make herself look good to make herself happy so when she experienced negative life changes, she slightly altered her appearance by getting ear piercings. Those negative life changes caused her to become cold to outsiders, wanting to appear tough as her late father was tough in personality, and slightly rebellious as she had her ear piercings illegally done twice. Deep inside, Shion is still caring to those she loves and mostly follows the rules so as not to disappoint her loved ones. She enjoys shopping for cute clothes and jewelry. She’s assertive, competitive, clever, has a blunt way of talking and doesn’t just take words for granted aside from valuing physical and mental strength.

In her free time, she visits her mother in the hospital or goes to the beach.

She can be protective and clever but has trouble trusting the words of others without evidence.

Her former dream was to be a cop like her father but her current dream is to be a pharmacist like her mother.

Background

Her father, Takamori Fuyumi, was a police officer. He met his future wife, Yasuko Yakushi while helping her get her purse back and apprehending the robber while she was shopping in Tokyo. Yasuko’s family owned a pharmacy in Yokohama that she helped run but after marrying Takamori, she worked at another pharmacy in Tokyo. The Fuyumi’s had neighbors who were a big family and notably of big stature who were known as the Murasakibara’s. Shion became friends with a girl from the Murasakibara family who was 2 years older and was also named “Shion” but written with different kanji. When Shion Murasakibara’s younger brother, Atsushi, was invited to play basketball by kids on the street, she was invited to play as well, and they were both enrolled into Mini-Basketball.

Shion was part of Teikō Junior High’s girls’ basketball team as their power forward but unfortunately, near the end of her time in junior high, her father passed away in a car accident chasing after a speeding car, so she and her mother had to move to Yokohama where her maternal grandmother and uncle resided. When she had to move, she got her ear piercings done illegally at a tattoo and piercing shop by an owner who didn’t care about her age. She was enrolled at Kaijō High and signed up for the girls’ basketball team. She became a regular, but she was cold to her peers who interacted with her aside from Aimi Umino, the point guard, Umiko Kaisei, the center, and Oki Shima, the team manager.

In her second year of high school, her mother was hospitalized for fatigue, so she got another set of ear piercings. Her jersey number is #8. It wasn’t until Kaijō’s girls’ basketball team lost to Jūban’s girls’ basketball team that she became the new vice-captain of Kaijō’s girls’ basketball team.

Relationships

Family

parents — Takamori and Yasuko Fuyumi, Emika Yakushi (maternal grandmother), Masaki Yakushi (maternal uncle)

Shion was her daddy’s girl. He loved her a lot and spent as much time with her whenever possible. He also spoiled her by buying her things when he could. She followed the rules like he did to make him happy. In her eyes, her father was like a hero, and he was tough and muscular which subconsciously influenced her taste in men. When she was little, play cops and robbers as the role of the cop, she would dress up as a cop, and have police-themed toys to be like her father. When her mother gave her a white chocolate cake for her birthday, explaining that on White Day, Takamori gave Yasuko white chocolates while dating her, white chocolate became her favorite food. As a teenager, he gave her money, bought her clothes and jewelry when she aced her tests, and Yasuko would lovingly say “You spoil this girl rotten.” Takamori would then say, “My little girl is never going to be rotten, right Shion?” Shion would retort that she’s not little anymore and that there was no way she would act rotten because her father was a scary cop. After his passing, she realized that it was her duty to care for her and her mother in his place.

Yasuko was firm and loving but kept things in moderation unlike her husband. While her father was busy with work, her mother made her meals, talked to her about her day, instructed her, or lectured her about how to behave properly. She can’t attend Shion’s basketball matches but always wishes her luck. Although she was disappointed to see her daughter come home with ear piercings, she didn’t scold her daughter when her older brother did but asked Shion how she got them. Shion explained that she got them done at a piercing and tattoo shop where the owner didn’t care about her age but seeing her mother’s disappointed look made her not want to do anything drastic moving forward. Yasuko knew that the times Shion got her ears pierced was due to Shion wanting to look good to make herself better. When Yasuko was hospitalized, she was worried, and she tried to visit as much as possible even though Yasuko reassured her that she would be fine and that she should just spend time with her friends. Fortunately, her mother was eventually discharged.

Her uncle, Masaki, can be a bit gruff but he is well-liked as the owner of the pharmacy by their customers. He had her work at the pharmacy without asking how she felt about it but said he would pay her for her work. He scolded her when she got her ears pierced illegally twice. Masaki told her not to worry about her mother’s hospital bills and told her that he’ll worry about it since Yasuko is his younger sister and he’s an adult so it’s his responsibility. She just needs to worry about her responsibilities as a student, a regular on Kaijō’s girls’ basketball team, and an employee at his pharmacy. He can’t watch her matches, but he will tell her to tell him and her grandmother how the game went and tells her to do her best.

Her grandmother is the laxest of all her relatives towards her since Shion is her only granddaughter. She thinks Shion is beautiful. Emika just giggled when her son scolded Shion for her illegal ear piercings and asked Masaki why did he felt the need to scold her since Yasuko already explained that Shion wanted to make herself look good to make herself feel better. When Masaki said that he doesn’t want Shion to go astray, Emika seemed assured that it wouldn’t happen. Both she and her daughter alternate with the cooking in the household. When her daughter was hospitalized, she took over making Shion’s lunches.

Friends

Shion Murasakibara aka Sailor Titan

When the girls first introduced themselves to one another, they and their families were surprised that they had the same name, but their mothers talked about the meanings of their respective names which helped them differentiate by kanji. Shion would often come over to the Murasakibara household to play on the weekends while her mother worked. Sometimes, she would eat lunch together with the Murasakibara family and take naps with Shion Murasakibara and her brothers. The two of them would play dolls, dress up, and watch magical girl anime together. However, when Shion Murasakibara was 17, she was 15, and Atsushi was 14, Shion Fuyumi had to move to Yokohama shortly after her father’s funeral. Shion Fuyumi begged Shion Murasakibara not to forget about her and she promised her she wouldn’t. They had each other’s contact information, but they lost touch for a while as Shion Fuyumi tried to cope with her recent life changes, but Shion Murasakibara did eventually initiate contact with her, and they started making their friendship long-distance. When the Satellite Sailor Guardians fought against the Saturnian Moon Sailor Guardians as Pharaoh 90 was covering the Earth, she realized Sailor Titan was her friend. Sailor Larissa clenched her fists and closed her eyes after taking a step forward and froze as she knew aiding her friend would be reason to her princess and her teammates. Shion Murasakibara later forgave her though as she understood her circumstances.

Atsushi Murasakibara

When she played with Shion’s brothers, she was the cop, and they were the robbers. Shion Murasakibara’s younger brother, Atsushi nicknamed her “Shio-chin”. When she and Atsushi Murasakibara were invited to play basketball by kids on the street, she had lots of fun and both she and Atsushi were enrolled in the same Mini-Basketball program. Shion Murasakibara was there when their parents picked them up from Mini-Basketball so she could spend time with her best friend. When Shion got to see Atsushi at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymanasium, he initially forgot her, and she thought that this was typical of him. Atsushi then said “Ah, that’s right, you’re Shio-chin, right?” Shion laughed and said, “That’s right, I’m Shio-chin.” Both Shion’s watched his game in the Winter Cup against Team Seirin

Rivals

Mihiro Kasamatsu aka Sailor Charon

Shion had only seen the older girl as the captain of a rival basketball team but her teammates, Umiko, Aimi, and even Kairi told her that they seemed similar in personality. After the Winter Cup, Aimi even encouraged Shion to go hang out with Mihiro as she thought the two of them would be good friends, but Shion dryly retorted “Wouldn’t our supposed similarities make us clash then? Aimi set up a get together for the three of them to make sure nothing happened. Shion found that aside from being tomboyish, have a blunt manner of speaking, and liking basketball as points of commonality, they both liked coin collecting, jewelry (although Mihiro likes it with coin charms), and chocolate (although Shion prefers the white kind.)

Saya Sakura aka Sailor Dia

Saya had a height advantage over her, but Shion did her best to guard her. Saya eventually shook her off and proved that she was the stronger power forward. When Aimi encouraged her to hang out with her fellow Sailor Guardian power forwards much like she had a Sailor Guardian point guard gather, Shion found that Saya’s energetic nature reminded her of Oki’s liveliness. She found Saya’s spirit to be a stark contrast from the coldness she faced from her on the court but understood that it was the mode Saya underwent when she was serious in the court or in battle.

Love Interests

Edward Elric aka Sun Knight

During Princess Serenity’s and Princess Tranquility’s 14th birthday ball, when the guests were asked to dance with someone not from their home celestial body, Prince Epikourios from the Sun Kingdom noticed Larissa standing by herself and asked her to dance. She remarked that it was bold of him to do so given their height difference which offended him, but she giggled and accepted the offer. They had conversations during and after the dance. Larissa kissed him in the hallways of the Moon Castle. With Shion’s brash way of talking and her poking fun of his height and his stubbornness and temper, they did butt heads often in the beginning and call each other names. Eventually, Shion opened up to him when he asked her why she had four piercings on each ear, and he empathized upon hearing her mother, Yasuko, was hospitalized and visited Yasuko with her, making her mother tease them with asking “Are you two dating?” She shed tears upon learning of his family situation. After fighting together, Sailor Larissa has given a weakened Sun Knight a piggyback ride and Sun Knight has bridal carried a weakened Sailor Larissa much to her embarrassment. She has seen his toughness and they both secretly think the other is attractive. They eventually confessed their feelings for one another during an embrace. Even though Ed did grow taller, Shion still outranked him in height and she thought it was part of their cuteness as a couple.

Her type of guy is a tough one.

Allies and Teammates

The Neptunian Moon Guardians

Aimi Umino aka Sailor Laomedeia

Both are classmates which allowed them to be better friends since they’re also basketball teammates. In addition, both are members of the Yukio Kasamatsu Secret Fan Club since Umiko and Aimi recruited her and Shion was initially not convinced since she saw the Kaijō’s boys’ basketball match during the Inter-High and while he had been a good point guard, he missed a critical pass which cost them the Inter-High. Umiko and Aimi rebuked her for saying that by telling her to put herself in his place and describing his situation to her made her feel a little guilty. They even told her that since Coach Takeuchi made him captain, he was working hard to make himself worthy of the position. Shion said that even though they seemed to have a good understanding of his feelings, she couldn’t just take their words for it, so they made her watch his practice from the hallway and she was finally convinced after seeing him act as captain and his muscular arms. Even though Shion is tomboyish, tough, and seems cold and Aimi is girly and approachable, Aimi approached her first and they often hang out together with Umiko and or Kairi. They gush over muscles on boys, enjoy shopping, and dressing up together. When Aimi antagonizes her fellow Ryōta Kise fans, she or Umiko will drag her away for her own good.

Umiko Kaisei aka Sailor Thalassa

Shion was taken aback when Umiko and Aimi approached her in her second year of high school to join the secret Yukio Kasamatsu fan club. She wasn’t sure who was more enthusiastic about getting her to join this strange fan club. She wasn’t sure who was more enthusiastic about getting her to join this strange fan club. However, once they asked her if she watched the Kaijō game in the Inter-High last year and pointed out that he was the point guard in the game, she was appalled because while he had been a good point guard, he missed a critical pass which cost them the Inter-High. Umiko and Aimi rebuked her for saying that by telling her to put herself and describing his situation to her made her feel a little guilty. They even told her since Coach Takeuchi made him captain, he was working hard to make himself worthy of the position. Shion said that even though they seemed to have a good understanding of his feelings, she couldn’t just take their words for it, so they made her watch his practice from the hallway and she was finally convinced after seeing him act as captain and his muscular arms. Due to them being the taller members on the basketball team, they are good at blocking their opponents. Shion respects her captain for being able to motivate the team and having a motherly nature. Since Aimi and Umiko are childhood friends, she gets to spend time with her captain outside of the court whether at school or off it. Shion thought that Yukio Kasamatsu would be a fool to not feel the same for her lovesick captain since she was tall, beautiful, and motherly. She thought even with Umiko being taller, they would make a cute couple.

Oki Shima aka Sailor Neso

In their previous lives, they gathered during their initiation ceremony as Princess Neptune’s guardian Sailor Guardians. During Princess Serenity’s and Princess Tranquility’s 14th birthday ball, Thalassa approached Neso to talk to her and Laomedeia joined in their conversation. Thalassa and Laomedeia decided that they should gather all the Neptunian Moon Guardians to talk together since they would probably not get a moment like this again. When Larissa joined in the conversation after being invited, she found that aside from Marina aka Sailor Triton (Mi Yue from Call Me Emperor), both she and Neso were not of noble lineage among the Neptunian Moon Guardians. When Shion applied for Kaijō’s girls’ basketball team, Oki was there taking notes on new applicants. Oki calls Shion “Shion-chan” and Shion refers to her as “Oki-san” or “Oki-senpai”. When Oki asks the regulars to drink her vegetable smoothies so that they stay healthy, Shion is the only one who is unfazed at the idea of drinking vegetable smoothies unless they have a bitter taste or if bitter melon is used to make a smoothie and, in those situations, she will ask if Oki is planning on torturing the regulars. When Oki offered everyone to eat lunch at her family restaurant on a Sunday following Ash’s arrival and offered a chocolate dessert, Shion asked her if it could be white chocolate for her and Oki made her a white chocolate mousse that she enjoyed but she also loves Oki’s cooking in general. Sometimes, the girls encounter each other at the beach or Oki gets included on one of Aimi’s and her shopping trips if their team is not hanging out together.

Kairi Mizuno aka Sailor Naiad

Since Aimi took Kairi under her wing to teach her how to be a girl, Shion ended up hanging around her underclassman a lot. Both are the only tomboys among the Neptunian Moon Guardians. Whereas even in her past life, she's had a blunt way of talking and a tough attitude, Kairi was forced to live as a boy from young age and can still act as one if needed given the circumstances. Both have strong builds as well. Not only are they taller than most Japanese girls, Shion is great at guarding opponents on and off the court while Kairi relies on the strength of her lower body to shoot three pointers and is not only able to fish out heavy fish but able to carry people heavier than her. Shion doesn't call Kairi by any honorifics while Kairi calls her "Shion-senpai", "senpai", and later "Shion-san". During a pivotal basketball match, Shion blocked the shots and said "I'll get in the opponents' way as much as I can, so you just focus on making those shots. Even if I know how to shoot a three-pointer, my rate isn't as high as yours." Shion looked back at Kairi and smirked "That's why you're the shooting guard." Kairi then smiled before giving her a determined look, nodding, and replying with a serious tone. "Yes!" Shion once asked her how she was so strong to carry Yukio Kasamatsu and she replied that it was because of fishing which made her taken aback and sweat.

Inspirations

Sophia from Claymore inspired some of her hairstyle. She got her surname from Maria Fuyumi from Naoko Takeuchi’s Maria and Maria also inspired the fact that she wanted to be a pharmacist and that there is a pharmacy owned by her family. Her having a friend who shares a similar first name was inspired by NANA. The fact she also lives with her uncle and grandmother was inspired by Kaede Kaburagi’s living situation from Tiger and Bunny. The EdWin moments in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood inspired her romance description with Edward Elric because even though I do not like Winry as a love interest, I like to make nods to canon even while canon diverging and doing crossovers haha which is why she also has multiple piercings but not as much as Winry’s. Seeing Winry sleep together with the Elric brothers also inspired Shion sleeping together with the Murasakibara siblings. The reason she got her earrings to make her feel better was inspired by Mikako Kouda, the female lead of Neighborhood Story who alters her appearance every time she feels extremely upset. The mythological Larissa’s inspired her attacks aside from Sailor Guardian title.
